The students, faculty and staff are winding down for the remainder of the year with a full agenda before the last day of school on Friday, December 16. Elementary Principal, Mr. Stuckenschneider aka Mr. S to the students stopped by Castle Country Radio Station to talk about the latest news at the school.
In November, Student Council for the Elementary held a weeks’ worth of activities in regards to Anti-Bullying. “They wanted to do an Anti-Bullying Week and each day they came up with a different activity like designing a friendship t-shirt, doing an anti-bullying poster – just a different activity every day,” stated Mr. S. The fact that the Student Council themselves came up with the entire event is impressive and shows that they want to bring awareness to the entire student body.
Elementary students will celebrate Science Week beginning on Monday, December 12 through Friday, December 16. Each day they will learn different science projects which prepares them for the annual Junior High Science Fair each year. The Junior High winners are chosen by a panel of judges and the top students who received top honors will then be allowed to take their project to the 2017 state competition held in Cedar City.
With Science being the focus for an entire week, a special guest will be making an appearance at the school as Mr. S explains, “We are really excited for this, our Junior High Science teacher arranged with the Mad Scientist, who is often on Fox 13 News to come down and do a special assembly for our school.” This a wonderful opportunity for the school and it just may spark interest for some students to want to learn more in the field of science.
If the last day of school wasn’t busy enough, the new Dance teacher has added a performance for the entire school to enjoy. “We have a dance performance on the same day as our Science Fair, it’s on Friday the 16. It runs from 8:15 to 9:15 in the morning. It’s in our new gymnasium and we are just really excited, we’ll have kindergarteners dancing all the way up to twelfth graders,” said Mr. S.
The eighth graders will host their annual Wax Museum event on Wednesday, December 14. This is where each student will pick an historical figure, learn as much as possible and write about them. Student then can dress like there character and provide the information they learn to other students that visit the “Wax Museum.”
It’s not just student that are ready for the Christmas break, faculty and staff are also looking forward to the much-needed break. “You know a lot of my staff pretty excited as well, it’s one of the perks of working at a school; so during our third term there is not a lot of breaks and we do a lot of educational activities during that time so it’s a big term,” explained Mr. S.
