A solid second half performance was enough to lift the Carbon Dinos to their third consecutive victory as they defeated the Union Cougars 60-41 Wednesday night in Roosevelt.

Senior Jamin Jensen scored 16 points as the Dinos outscored the Cougars 36-16 in the second half, moving their overall record to 4-4 in the process. Kyle Quinton contributed 13 points and Derek Hillam finished with 10.

Trailing 27-24 at half time Carbon used a 17 point third quarter to capture a three point advantage heading into the final stanza. Outscoring Union 19-5 in the final eight minutes, the Dinos easily captured their third straight win.

Brevan Nielsen ended with 21 points for the Cougars, who slipped to 1-5 on the season with the loss. Chase Birchell, Gage Roberts and Jath Mansfield all scored four in the setback.

After losing three straight games on the road the Dinos have responded with three wins in different fashion over the past week. Carbon has scored 60 points or more in three of their four wins, while failing to reach that threshold in all four of their losses.

The Dinos will look to extend their winning streak when they return to the court on Friday at home against Tooele. The Buffaloes are just below the .500 barrier at 4-5 on the season, but have managed to record back-to-back wins over Taylorsville and Ben Lomond.

Following Friday’s game the Dinos will travel on Saturday for the first of two meetings with the Emery Spartans. Tip-off for Friday’s rivalry showdown is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Live coverage will begin at 6:30 on KOAL 107.3 FM and 750 AM with the Landon’s Diesel Service Pre-Game Show.
