Emery High School senior Kolton Butler was named to the 3A All-State Football First Team after a sensational 2016 campaign. Six other Emery players were named to the All-State Second Team.

Voted on by coaches throughout the 3A classification, Butler was one of three wide receivers to earn an All-State First Team Selection. The 6-foot-3 standout led the team in receptions, while accumulating 361 yards and six touchdowns during his final football season.

Seniors Logan Cox, Logan Labrum, Koby Butler, Ty Mecham, Chase Jewkes, and Kobe Faimalo were all selected to the All-State Second Team. The six selections to the second team was the most of any school in the classification.

Cox led the team in rushing as he averaged just over five yards per carry, finishing the season with 879 yards and four touchdowns. Labrum and Butler, both three year starters, were recognized for their excellence on the offensive line.

Mecham was selected to the second team for his play on the defensive line. Jewkes earned the recognition for his play at linebacker, and Faimalo for his play in the secondary as the team’s safety. Throughout the season the Spartans allowed just over 20 points per game, and held their opponents under double-digits on three separate occasions.

The Spartans finished their first season under head coach Jon Faimalo with an overall record of 4-6, and lost in the opening round of the state tournament to the Juab Wasps.
