A huge third quarter lifted the Emery Lady Spartans to their fifth consecutive win as they blasted through the Millard Eagles 53-31 Wednesday evening at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.

Megan Jensen poured in a game-high 14 points to go along with five boards in the win. Bailey Huggard scored 11 points and Lainee Jensen recorded a season high nine rebounds.

Holding a comfortable 28-17 lead at the break, the Lady Spartans put the game out of reach with a dominating 17-3 run in the third quarter. Defensively Emery tallied 11 steals, three of which came from Huggard.

Payton Miller and McKenna Rowell both score eight points to pace Millard offensively. Wednesday’s loss was only the second of the season for Millard, which also ends a three-game winning streak that started on Dec. 8 against Maesar Prep.

Now 7-1 on the season, the Lady Spartans have won each of their games by an average of 25.8. Only twice has the team scored less than 50 points, one of which resulted in a loss to North Summit on Dec. 2.

Only one game remains on the schedule for the Lady Spartans before entering the lengthy Christmas break. Thursday Emery will travel for a non-league tilt with the Union Cougars Thursday evening. The next contest will take place on Jan. 3 at home against Beaver.
