The Emery Spartans again showcased their dominance in the swimming pool as both the boys and girls delivered a first place performance against four other schools Friday at the Emery County Aquatic Center in Castle Dale.

Capturing six first place finishes, the Emery boys edged Payson by five points overall for first place with 153 points. Millard ended in third with 112, followed by Delta and American Leadership Academy.

The Lady Spartans easily claimed first place as they ended with 217 points, 117 better than second place Payson. Millard ended in third with 76 points, followed by American Leadership Academy with 35, and Delta with 22.

Keldan Guymon, Daryl Guymon, Garret Stilson and Nate Gilbert scored the first victory of the afternoon for the boy’s team in the 200 yard medley. Gilbert finished the final leg of the race in 23.54 seconds, which was fast enough for the team to expand their slight lead. The end result was 2.60 second win.

Keldan Guymon, Allen Durrant, Deegan Minchey and Daryl Guymon logged a victory in the 200 yard free relay, topping second place Payson by 8.06 seconds. Stilson, Gilbert, Minchey and Logan Cox recorded the team’s other relay win in the 400 yard free relay.

Daryl Guymon defeated Delta’s Smalls Fife by 1.40 seconds for a first place finish in the 50 yard free with a time of 23.24. The team’s other individual first place performance came from Keldan Guymon in the 100 yard free.

The Emery girl’s squad opened the meet up with a win in the 200 yard medley relay. The team consisting of Alexis Johansen, Angellana Migliori, Kaelee Hooly and Katie Carter finished ahead of Payson by less than three-seconds. Carter managed to get the win for the Lady Spartans, finishing the final leg just ahead of Payson’s Ciara Ford.

Tarryn Parkins, Brianne Bass, Erin Oliverson and Carter easily took home first place in the 200 yard free relay, finishing with a time of 2:02.30. Bass, Hooley, Oliverson, and Johansen later dominated the 400 yard free relay, topping Payson by 28.79 seconds.

Johansen added to her stellar day with first place finishes in the 200 and 500 yard free. Bass added to the Lady Spartans point total as she edged out teammates Carter and Hooley for first in the 50 yard free.

Only two meets remain before the Southern Division Championship meet on Thursday, Jan. 26. The Spartans will return to the pool on Tuesday as they welcome in the Carbon Dinos, again at the Emery County Aquatic Center.
