The Carbon Dinos completed the 2016-17 wrestling season as six qualifiers competed at the 3A State Championship Tournament Friday and Saturday at Utah Valley University Friday and Saturday.
Competing against wrestlers throughout the state, junior Casey Shiner finished fourth place in the 126 pound weight class, ending with a record of 4-2. After suffering a loss to Bear River’s Maverick Skinner, Shiner won his next four matches before falling to Jate Frost from Union in the Third Place match.
Senior AJ Adams recorded a sixth place finish for the Dinos, winning two matches in a row after suffering his first loss to qualify for the 5th place match. A loss to Carson Bywater from Bear River brought the weekend to an end for Adams with a 3-3 record.
Under the instruction of first year head coach Brock Fausett, the Dinos enjoyed a variety of success throughout the season. The qualifiers for the 3A State Championship meet finished in the top eight during the regional tournament on Feb. 3 and 4.
