The Carbon Dinos notched their first win of the new baseball season as the team finished 2-2 during a three day trip to St. George for the Pizza Hut Classic.

After dropping the opening game 8-0 to Dixie, the Dinos responded with back-to-back wins over Mountain Crest and Payson. The tournament came to an end for Carbon on Saturday with a 10-0 loss to Cedar.

The first win of the season came Friday as the Dinos thrived in the middle innings to capture a thrilling 13-12 over Mountain Crest Friday. The win halted a two-game skid to open up the pre-season schedule.

Cody Lowe and Ty Anderson each recorded two RBI as the team accumulated seven total. Anderson helped push the offense with a double and a walk in five plate appearances. Jayden Flemmet, Chase Morgan and Lowe all finished with multiple hits.

Five different pitchers received time on the mound for the Dinos, combining for five strikeouts throughout the game. Defensively Carbon committed four errors, compared to three for Mountain Crest.

Carbon followed up the shootout victory over Mountain Crest with another highly effective offensive performance in a 14-13 win over Payson Friday afternoon.

Falling behind in the middle frames, the Dinos scored six runs in the final two innings to secure the slim one run win. Josh Barlow was awarded the win for Carbon, delivering 3.2 innings of work from the hill.

Accumulating 11 hits total throughout the game, Carbon finished with four doubles. Morgan continued his brilliance in the box, finishing with three RBI, one run and one hit. Lowe and Gavin Robinett finished with two hits as Carbon won for the second time this season.

Now 2-3 overall, the Dinos will take a break in the schedule before returning to the field on Tuesday, March 21 on the road against the Emery Spartans. Next Tuesday’s matchup will be the only varsity meeting between the two schools this year.
