The Carbon Lady Dinos had a busy week beginning Tuesday with region contest at Sleepy Ridge in Orem, followed the Basin Cup Thursday at the Carbon Country Club.
Fighting cold and windy conditions at Sleepy Ridge, the Lady Dinos battled to a third place finish with a final score of 214 points. Juab ran away with the meet win as they scored 255 points, followed by Richfield’s 221 point second place performance.
Laini Davis posted the top Carbon score out of the Modified Stableford scoring system with 61 points. Jordan Bianco finished right behind with 59 points, followed by Sam King’s 48 and Gwyn Kardelis at 46.
“We laid down at Sleepy Ridge and we should have challenged more,” said head coach Kenji Otani. “Laini battled through some swing issues and Jordan came up big for the team overall.”
Thursday the team returned to the course to participate in the annual Basin Cup Tournament against Uintah and Spanish Fork at the Carbon Country Club. Finishing with just 199 points, the Lady Dinos ended in a disappointing third place. Uintah easily claimed the traveling trophy with 274 points, defeating second place Spanish Fork by 44 points.
“I’m not even sure what happened at the Basin Cup, it was just one of those days,” said Otani. “The girls didn’t quit though and they fought for every point, which shows definite character.”
Laini Davis again led Carbon with 54 points, while Gwyn Kardelis ended with 53. Sam King scored 48 and Jordan Bianco recorded the fourth score for Carbon with 44.
The team will now take a two week break before returning to region play on April 25 at the Skyline Resort. The next home competition will take place two days later on April 27.
