The Carbon High School track and field team gave the younger athletes an opportunity to shine as the underclassmen traveled to Vernal for the Big Red Invitational Wednesday afternoon.

Competing against Wasatch, Uintah and Maple Mountain, the Carbon boy’s team finished fourth with a final total of 13 points. Maple Mountain edged Wasatch by five with a 95-point performance, and Uintah finished in third with 46.

The Lady Dinos used seven first place finishes to grab second place with a final total of 88 points. Wasatch topped Carbon by six points, while Uintah finished in third with 49.

Carbon sophomore Caitlyn Dimick had a solid outing taking first place in both the discus and long jump. Harley Migliori also claimed two first place finishes, winning both the long jump and the 200 meters.

Grace Boradbear took home first place in the 800 meters, topping teammate Regan Hanson with a time of 2:38.73. Emma Haddock clinched another top finish for the Lady Dinos in the 3200 meters, ending with a time of 13:50.40.

Adding to the team’s total Maggie Poweel and Migliori finished one-two in the shot put. The team’s 4X400 group also logged a first-place finish to secure the seventh win of the afternoon.

With Wednesday’s underclassmen meet in the books, the full team will return to action on Friday with a trip to the Eastern Utah Championships in Moab. The yearly tournament rotates between sites, and features a traveling trophy awarded to the winner.
