Utah State University-Eastern freshman Madison Loftus has been selected as an Honorable Mention All-American by the NJCAA Women’s Basketball Committee for her outstanding play in the 2016-17 season.
Loftus, a 5-foot-8 guard from Bingham High School, averaged a team best 15 points per contest. Adding to her resume’ for an All-American nod, Loftus also averaged 3.6 rebounds, 2 assists and shot 86-percent from the free throw line, which placed her in the top 10 nationally.
Loftus broke the school record for three-point shots made in a season with 85. A record held previously by Utah State Eastern women’s basketball head coach Chelsey Warburton. Her outstanding individual season also led to a First Team All-Conference selection.
Three other players from the Scenic West Athletic Conference were recognized for outstanding individual play. Salt Lake Community College guard Tia Hay was selected to All-American First Team, while Brianna Osorio grabbed a Third Team selection. Salt Lake’s Sica Cuzic was also named Honorable Mention.
Loftus is the first USU-Eastern women’s basketball player to receive All-American recognition since Priscila Santos in 2012.
