The USU-Eastern Lady Eagles will look to extend their first softball season as they meet the College of Southern Nevada in the opening round of the Scenic West Athletic Conference tournament Wednesday in Salt Lake City.

Despite several setbacks throughout the season, the Lady Eagles wrapped up conference play with a positive as they earned a split with the Snow College Badgers on the road. The two wins move USU-Eastern to 5-35 in SWAC action, marking them as the sixth seed heading into league’s tournament.

In eight meetings between the two teams Southern Nevada has come out victorious each time. Despite three games being decided by one run, the Lady Eagles were outscored 66-23 in those eight games.

“I keep telling the girls that they need to peak around the time of the conference tournament,” said head coach Brittani Richins. “I know the records say a lot, but in softball I believe whoever plays the best that day can win.”

The winner of Wednesday’s first game will move on to meet the College of Southern Idaho at 5:00 p.m.. The loser will move down into an elimination contest Thursday at 11:00 a.m..

USU-Eastern will take the field following the No. 4 and 5 match-up between Colorado Northwestern and Snow College. The winner of that contest will move on to face Salt Lake Community College, the outright conference winner who finished with a record of 38-2.
