Despite suffering a loss to the Cedar Red in the opening round of the 3A State Tournament, the Carbon Lady Dinos avoided elimination with win over Logan Saturday in Cedar City.
Entering the tournament as the No. 4 seed from Region 12, the Lady Dinos were outmatched by Cedar, the Region 9 champions in the opening contest, ending in a 7-1 setback. The loss dropped Carbon to the one-loss bracket to square of with Logan, the No. 3 seed from Region 11 later in the day.
Responding from the six-run loss in the opener the Carbon offense responded in a big way to grab a 10-1 win over Logan. The win moves Carbon along the one-loss bracket as the state tournament shifts to Spanish Fork Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Dinos will face either Desert Hills, the No. 2 seed from Region 9, or Grantsville, the Region 10 champion on Thursday at 3:15 p.m.. A win would mean the team will continue on Friday against an opponent to be determined, while a loss would end the season.
