As the spring sports season reaches the home stretch, eight Carbon High School student-athletes are receiving recognition for excellence inside the classroom.

Chase Morgan was one of 10 individuals to qualify for the baseball academic squad, which combined for a 3.998 grade point average. Morgan was also selected to the basketball All-Academic team this past winter.

McKenna Sorenson also earned her second Academic-All State honor, this time in softball. Sorenson joins nine others who finished with a minimum 3.995 GPA. She also received the honor in basketball this past season.

Paul Bryner and Logan Engar both received nods for the award in boys track and field, which has a combined 3.998 GPA. Both Sadie Crompton and Sarah Ohlwiler were recognized on the girl’s side as the team combined for a 4.000 GPA. Bryner, Crompton and Ohlwiler also received the honor this past fall for cross country.

Tennis players Jason and Jonas Nielsen were two of 11 players to receive the award. The group of outstanding student-athletes combined for a perfect 4.0 GPA.

The Utah High School Activities Association in conjunction with the Deseret News present the Academic-All State award each year to students on the basis of their athletic ability and academic proficiency.
