New Heights Clubhouse along with the HOPE Squad of Carbon and Emery Counties would like to invite members of the community to come join them for a Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Awareness Walk taking place on Tuesday, May 23 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Stephanie Procarione, New Heights Generalist spoke about the event, “Four Corners and New Heights Clubhouse has partnered with the HOPE Squad here in Carbon and Emery Counties to bring some awareness around mental health and one way we are going to do that is by to have a Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness Walk.”

The event will start with opening ceremonies at the Price City Peace Gardens where Mayor Joe Piccolo will say a few words and Executive Director of Four Corners Behavioral Health, Karen Dolan will speak on Mental Health Awareness and Suicide Prevention.

“I think that with mental illness we think about what we see on TV or news and the reality is a lot of us sometimes just struggle with mental illness and we don’t even want to talk about it. So when we don’t talk about it often times leads to suicide,” stated Procarione. Those individuals who feel as though they are alone with their mental illness or have a loved who suffers can find out more about the resources available in our community by attending the walk.

After the guest speakers have addressed the audience the trek to Washington Park will begin. Once at the park a social gathering with a free lunch and other fun activities will be provided by the HOPE Squad of Carbon and Emery Counties.

Organizers anticipate the event will raise awareness of mental health issues to challenge the stigma and discrimination that’s been attached for so many years. Procarione finished by saying, “It’s becoming more acceptable and people are not feeling so alone in it. They’re not the only ones that maybe struggling with some depression, or even some paranoia or schizophrenia, lots of times its just hard to talk about that.” The event is in conjunction with Mental Health Awareness month that takes place nation wide during the entire month of May.
