After avoiding elimination with two consecutive wins, the Carbon baseball season came to a close with a 14-5 loss to the Juan Diego Soarin’ Eagles Thursday evening in Spanish Fork.
Surrendering five runs in the opening frame, the Dinos never led in the season ending loss. Juan Diego’s lead dwindled to one after the third inning, but the Soarin’ Eagles responded with a 9-1 run to close out the game.
Gavin Robinett was hit with the loss on the hill, allowing eight hits, eight earned runs and two home runs in over three innings of work. Chase Morgan pitched the final three frames and allowed six earned runs off of seven hits. The two pitchers combined for five strikeouts in the loss.
Kameron Gunter helped push the Carbon offense along finishing 2-4 with a double, triple, and two RBIs. Chase Morgan knocked a double, and finished with one RBI, while Nate Olson ended 1-4 with one RBI.
Falling to Desert Hills in the opening round of the 3A state tournament on May 13, the Dinos extended their season to the final week with a win over Morgan. Earlier Thursday the team again avoided elimination by topping Stansbury 4-3. That win set the stage for the eventual loss to Juan Diego.
