Sarah Ohlwiler closed out her stellar track and field career with a state championship in the long jump as the Carbon Dinos closed out the season at the 3A State Championship meet Friday afternoon in Provo at Brigham Young University.
Competing against 20 other athletes from around the state, Ohlwiler registered a jump of 17.6.25”, which easily topped second place Morgan Meyers of Desert Hills. Dixie’s Starlee Woodbury finished in third, followed by Carbon’s Mikelle Monson.
Ohlwiler’s top finish marked the only first place nod for the Lady Dinos, as the team finished seventh overall with 28 points. Desert Hills claimed the overall state championship with 164 points, followed by Cedar in second with 130. Dixie, Stansbury and Bear River rounded out the top five.
A multiple top five finishes propelled the Lady Dinos to a top 10 finish against the 3A classification. The state tournament was the final competition in a highly successful season that saw the girl’s squad accumulate a large streak of meet wins.
The Carbon boy’s finished at the bottom of the stacked 3A division, scoring just three points throughout the meet. Desert Hills again finished at the top of the leader-board with 131 points. Hurricane edged Stansbury by three for second place, while Morgan and Cedar completed the top five.
