The GEAR UP Senior Signing Day took place on Thursday, May 19 at the campus of USU-Eastern Jennifer Leavitt Student Center. Recognition was given to senior students from Carbon, Lighthouse, Pinnacle, Emery and Green River High Schools for their accomplishment of making post-secondary plans.

A total of 32 students where recognized by walking on stage, introducing themselves and hoisting a pennant or banner to show their choice of school or service. Some students are planning on attending USU-Eastern, USU-Logan, Weber State, Utah Valley University, Southern Utah University, as well as serving LDS missions and/or enlisting in the military.

One GEAR UP student from each of the five high schools was selected as a recipient of the new $1,000.00 USU-Eastern GEAR UP Student of the Year Scholarship. The students awarded were Alisa Tallerico at Carbon, Lighthouse senior Zackary Dickerson, Valentin Acosta from Pinnacle, Busken Allred at Emery and Yesenia Hernandez from Green River. All students gave an acceptance speech about how GEAR UP has helped them and their life goals.

GEAR UP appreciates the support from the community with their effors to build a stronger college going culture in both Carbon and Emery counties.
