Two nights full of races from a variety of classes opened up the new season at the Desert Thunder Raceway this past Friday and Saturday in Price.
Once again headlined by the IMCA Modifieds, fans filtered in to watch seven classes compete for local, state and national points. The weekend set was the first of three at the track, which will take place throughout the summer.
Randy Arts, driver of the No. 14 car, took home the checkered flag in Friday’s IMCA Modified showdown. Arts managed to hold off second place Michael Hale, who finished just ahead of Chase Hansen. Wyatt Howard and Dakota Berry rounded out the top five.
Saturday’s finale featured a completely different top three as Regan Tafoya topped Derek Rhoden for first. Tafoya improved drastically from Friday’s 13th place finish, while Roden moved up from 11th. Berry improved to third place, followed by Hansen and Hale.
While finishing in the top five both nights in the Modified class, Hale claimed first place both Friday and Saturday in the Hobby Stocks. Grayson Denny delivered two second place finishes, while Bret Housekeeper ended third and fourth. Devin Huff prevented Housekeeper from two straight third place finishes.
Scott Gray swept the SportMods each night , topping Steve Gray on Friday, and Robert Gallegos on Saturday. Brian Carey ran consistent throughout the weekend with two third-place finishes. Shane Simper, Jason Reese and Darell Cordary also logged top five marks.
The Desert Thunder Raceway will open once again on July 14 with a back-to-back set of races on both Friday and Saturday. Below are the complete results from each class this past weekend:
