Price will open the American Legion baseball season  Saturday with a home double-header against St. George at the USU Eastern baseball complex.

Led once again by manager Willie Ellington, the Price Raptors will compete in a highly competitive division with Helper, St. George, Pleasant Grove, Corner Canyon, Roosevelt, Dixie, Sevier and Vernal. The first four games of the season will take place at home.

“I appreciate coach Madsen, who always takes care of us and always makes sure the field looks great,” said Ellington in regard to home games. “The division tournament is going to be in Helper, which I’m also extremely excited about.”
Tryouts for the Price squad ran from Thursday, May 11 through Tuesday, May 30. The sessions gave Ellington proper time to field a team that he believes will possess chemistry heading into the season.

“I’m really optimistic about the team this year, and the number of kids at tryouts has been great,” said Ellington. “The reason I started tryouts so early is so the kids who didn’t play high school ball can get a bit of an edge.”

All nine teams in the Southern Division will participate in a season ending tournament in Helper on July 20-22. The top four placing teams will then move on the following week to the state championship, matching up against four teams from the Northern Division.
