Despite success in the early innings the Price Raptors dipped to 0-4 in Southern Division play as they suffered back-to-back losses to Vernal at home Wednesday afternoon.

Locked in a scoreless tie heading to the third inning, Vernal unloaded in the final three frames to grab an eventual 16-3 win. Unable to bounce back for a split, Price was once again beat soundly in a 22-0 decision.

“Vernal has a great team, but that’s no excuse for us,” said manager Willie Ellington. “We played with them pretty well for a few innings, but then they took it to us. In spite of all that there are still some good things going on here.”

Logan Mellor finished with two singles in three place appearances, while Trevor Pummel continued his steady production with two hits in the 16-3 loss. A combination of three pitchers worked each game for Price in the two losses. The double-header was the first since Saturday’s opener against St. George.

Sitting at the bottom of the Southern Division, Price will have an opportunity to log their first victory of the season when they travel Friday to meet Sevier in double-header action.

“First thing we have to do on Friday is not go in discouraged,” Ellington said about the next contest against Sevier. “We have to leave the past behind, but not our past mistakes. I see this team getting better and better and that’s encouraging.”

Following the set Price will take a week off before traveling to Wyoming for a wooden bats tournament.
