The Price City Recorder’s office opened the city council candidate filing period on June 1 for townsfolk interested in running for the Mayoral position or one of the two city council member seats that are up for grabs this year. The process brought in a total of ten individuals that filed a Nomination Petition by the deadline of June 7.

There were five candidates that filed for the Mayoral seat, two of which are currently on city council, Mayor Joe Piccolo is looking to be re-elected for another four-year term, Council member, Rick Davis is going to try his hand at the city’s top elected spot this year and three new faces will accompany the season opponents on the ballot, Michael Kourianos, Rick Adams and Boyd Marsing.

Residents were shocked to not see current council member Wayne Clausing’s name on the list of mayoral candidates, especially after being so vocal over the years that he would run when the time came. As per a Facebook post by Clausing, the reason behind his decision was that he has been given a great opportunity with the Salt Lake City store and plans to leave Price City in the early Fall. Many would agree that Clausing’s passion and dedication in improving the city will be greatly miss, as well as his generosity in supporting local fundraisers.

Five candidates filed for one of the two Council Member positions that will become vacant. Current Council Member, Terry Willis, is looking to secure her position, which she was unanimously appointed to in November 2015 when Miles Nelson accepted a position as City Public Works Director. There is also a few new faces on the Council Member ballot for citizens to consider, Leif Nelson, Jesse Sloan, Amy Knott-Jespersen and Joe Christman.

The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 7.
