The Carbon County Search and Rescue Demolition Derby committee has set a half off registration deadline for the end of June, giving drivers extra incentive to be a part of this year’s spectacular show.

The derby will be held in conjunction with the annual Carbon County Fair for the second straight year on Saturday, August 12. Following the success of last year’s packed show, organizers are expecting possibly the biggest turnout in years.

“Right now its $25.00 to register a car, which is half off throughout the end of June,” said Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood. “If you are building a car now is a good time to sign up because you can pick what number you want. Someone else may have picked your number if you don’t get there fast enough.”

The annual derby is the only way the Carbon County Search and Rescue generates funds for operation. Last year the derby was held in conjunction with the fair in hopes of creating a new tradition of teaming up, rather than competing.

“We had an opportunity to do it with the Carbon County Fair which is a win-win for all of us,” said Wood when the new arrangement was first announced in 2016. “It gives a good event for the fair, and it gives us an opportunity to participate in the fair, so we can kind of combine events.”

This year’s event will feature classes such as the 80’s chain and bang, the main attraction from 2016. Other classes include the misfits, minis and mini van and trucks. Each class is unique and gives each driver an opportunity to participate based on the style of car they have available.

Drivers may visit Tire King located at 535 East Main Street in Price to register.
