Emery High School senior Jacob Huntsman and junior Tanyon Allred received recognition for their excellence on the soccer field with an All-State honorable mention.

Huntsman, who played defender for the Spartans, was an intricate part to the team’s success throughout the season. As a team Emery allowed just nine goals in 12 region games, and just 21 goals throughout the 16 game season. Huntsman was key in aiding goalie Tayvon Cook to six shutouts during the 2017 campaign.

Allred, who received the mention for his play at midfielder, finished third on the team in goals with three throughout the season. While giving up the fewest goals in the 2A Central, Emery was the second highest scoring team in the region behind only Manti.

After a 9-3 finish to league play during the season the Spartans entered the state tournament as the No. 2 seed from the 2A Central. The season came to an end after Emery suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in the opening round.
