Unable to sustain consistent offense throughout the night, the Helper Merchants suffered back-to-back losses to Pleasant Grove in Southern Division play Tuesday night in Helper.

Locked in a scoreless tie throughout the first three innings of action, Helper fell behind 2-0 entering the bottom half of the fourth. Despite finding some offense off the bat of Cody Lowe, the Merchants never recovered in a 4-1 setback.

Despite a solid effort on the bump Zac Bradley was charged with the loss in five innings work. Allowing just one earned run, Pleasant Grove managed to score four during Bradley’s outing. Striking out four batter, Bradley walked just one as Helper dipped to 5-2 in league action.

Lowe fell a home run shy of the cycle as he finished with a single, double, triple and the team’s lone run. Bradley recorded a double and Flemett logged the teams other hit with a single.

The offensive struggles continued for Helper in the second game of the double-header, as Pleasant Grove cruised to a 6-1 wire-to-wire victory.

Adrien Sanchez was hit with the loss in a near complete game-effort, allowing five earned runs in 6.2 innings of work. Sanchez managed good command throughout the night by striking out eight and walking just three.

For the second straight game Helper accumulated just five hits, none of which resulted in extra bases. Wyatt Wilson’s single brought in Kameron Gunter for the team’s lone run.

The two losses send Helper to 5-3 in league play on the season, which puts them in the middle of the Southern Division. The Merchants will have an opportunity to get back on the winning track when they play host to Dixie Friday at 8:00 p.m..
