Huntington City Mayor Hilary Gordon would like to invite everyone out for their annual Heritage Days celebration set to begin on Saturday, July 1 till Tuesday, July 4.

Things kick off early on Saturday morning at 9:30 am with the Fourth Annual Best Shot Compeition. “Saturday we’re starting out with Best Shot Competition, that’s at 9:30 in the morning that’s up Huntington Canyon at Seely’s Fruit Farm, they have an amazing target area right there. So that is for kids eighteen and under, they are required to have a parent or guardian with them, but even the youngsters can come and enjoy that target shooting and there are prizes and all kinds of things,” said Gordon. Prizes will be awarded to the top three shooters and an entry fee $20.00 per person will be required upon registration.

Other activities during the celebration will be held at the city park such as the Pet contest at 2:30 pm, Baby contest at 3:30 pm, various free games and competitions for the kids at 4:30 pm. The annual evening dinner will start to serve guests at 5:30 pm. “It’s an amazing dinner that we have. It’s a modest prize of $20.00 for a family and $5.00 a plate. While that is being served and people are eating, we have Val Jensen Band to entertain under the pavilion right there, so that’s a really nice. Like I said it’s a very, very good dinner.”

On Sunday, July 2 a Fireside will be held at the LDS Stake Center on Main Street at 7:00 pm with guest speaker Lond Wakefield.

Monday evening will kick off activities at 5:00 pm at the city park with a volleyball tournament. Gordon added, “We have a free ice cream social. We serve ice cream and cookies to everybody that would like that and it keeps us really busy cause it’s hot weather this year especially and everybody would like that, so it’s a good thing.” There will be live entertainment by No Limits to enjoy. The rodeo grounds will feature a horseshoe tournament at 7:00 pm. The 5K Color Run/Walk will start at 7:30 pm sharp, participants are asked to meet at Center Street and 400 East no later than 7:15 pm. There will be a kid’s bike light parade at 9:15 pm beginning at Center Street and will finish up with their own firework display at the City Park baseball field.

Independence Day will begin with the raising of the American flag at 7:30 am at the park, followed by the annual breakfast in the park. “Myself and the council are serving and cooking from 7:30 am to 9:00 am. We have amazing things like ham, hasbrowns, scrambled eggs, pancakes, juice, milk, whatever you want in that respect, it’s a really, really good breakfast. Again, it’s $5.00 a plate or $20.00 a family, so very, very economical and a good breakfast,” stated Gordon.

The annual parade will follow the breakfast beginning promptly at 10:00 am and making it’s way down Main Street towards the park. After the parade, guests can gather at the park where there will be free kids attractions and live entertainment provided by Wasatch Country Pickers at 11:30 am and Hypno Hick show at 1:30 pm. The annual lawn mower races will be held at the Junior High football field at 4:00 pm. The celebration will close with a spectacular fireworks display held at the rodeo grounds.
