Community Daze played host to one of the largest horseshoes tournaments of the year in the Castle Country, welcoming in 29 teams and 24 individuals for a full day of competition Saturday in East Carbon.

Tommy Martinez and Jack Bracken outlasted 28 teams in a double-elimination tournament that lasted nearly six hours to claim first place. Mikey Lofley and Dustin Lofley finished second, followed by Del Dickey and Jonathon Giddings in third.

Martinez capped off a stellar day at the pits by also grabbing the singles championship. The single elimination format ended as Martinez defeated second place finisher Mikey Lofley. Ricky Neil Sandoval ended in third.

July is a busy month for horseshoes tournaments in the local area. Coming up on Saturday will be the 6th Annual Beat the Heat Doubles tournament, which will take place at Washington Park in Price.

“This particular tournament gets bigger and bigger each year,” said event organizer Rochelle Badback. “We keep the entry fee at a reasonable price so everyone can play. This tournament seems to attract more players each summer because of the cash payout.”

There is no limit to the amount of teams that are allowed to register. Those who would like to pre-register can do so by contacting Badback at (435) 820-6636.
