Human activities are wildly diverse, as such, are the sources of human-caused wildfires. General awareness of these causes, simple preventative measures, and common sense decision making will contribute to a safe and wildfire-free summer. Smokey Bear’s famous quote, “Remember, only YOU can prevent wildfires”, rings true this year as Utah has experienced an increase in wildfire activity. Fire prevention is a collaborative effort; however, individuals can do their part to protect their communities and natural resources from the effects of human-caused wildfire.

The National Fire Prevention and Education Team recently learned of a local business that took action to do just that this summer, and sends praise for their proactive approach to fire prevention. Stewart’s Marketplace in Roosevelt, UT serves as a fine example of community members taking a personal responsibility to do their part.

“It’s important that we recognize individuals who take action”, says Chris Asbjorn, Public Information Officer for the National Fire Prevention and Education Team based out of Salt Lake City. He continues, “We applaud the Stewart family for consciously recognizing the extreme fire danger this year, and feeling empowered to make their individual contribution to wildfire prevention in their community.”

The group will be presenting Stewart’s Marketplace with a personalized plaque, signifying their appreciation for the family’s efforts.
