The Southern Utah American Legion Baseball Tournament, which will determine half of the representatives in the Utah State Tournament, will begin Thursday and run through Saturday at Ernie Gardner field in Helper.
Seven teams from southern region of the state of Utah, including Helper and Price, will compete over the next three days in a double-elimination style tournament. The top four teams will advance to the state championship tournament next week to face the top four teams from the Northern Division.
“This is big for us and our area. Considering Helper has been associated with American Legion Baseball for over 50 years,” said Helper manager Jeff Cisneros Wednesday on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports. “It is big and there is definitely a lot on the line for those kids who are playing.”
The first contest of the tournament will take place at 2:30 pm on Thursday as Roosevelt and Vernal go toe-to-toe. Price will look to upset St. George in the day’s second game scheduled for a 5:30 start. Helper and South Sevier will complete the first day of action under the lights at 8:00.
Admission will be $5.00 a day and $12.00 for the entire three days for adults. A one day children’s pass will cost $3.00, with a three day pass set at $7.00. Family passes are available for four-to-seven people at a discount.
