The International Days Celebration inside Washington and Pioneer Park is the city’s biggest celebration of the year. The three-day event begins on Thursday, July 27 and running through till Saturday, July 29. The amount of activities, live entertainment, plus the numerous food and retail vendors is sure to appeal to all ages.
Terry Willis, Chairperson highlighted a few of the big events this year, “The carnival will be back, everybody loves the carnival. We’ve got a great lineup of entertainment going on all through the weekend. The college on Friday night, just great stuff for the teens to do, we’ll have two good movies this year, Moana so that will be the movie in the park on Friday night and then on Saturday night we’ll have Tarzan, and of course the parade on Saturday is huge.” The evenings will feature great live entertainment, like a performance by Millennial Beat on Friday night, Castle Country Radio’s So You Think You Can Sync competition on Saturday at 5:30 pm, followed by a local favorite, The Jeff Keele Band, who in traditional form will wrap up International Days.
On Thursday and Friday, the public is welcome to swim for free at the Desert Wave Pool from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The annual belly flop, cannon ball and hula hoop contest will be held, along with other activities for a chance to win prizes. Sponsors for the event are Pinnacle HVAC and Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County.
Inaugural ceremonies will take place on Thursday evening at 6:30 pm at the Peace Gardens. Price American Legion Post 3 and the Price Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2379 will conduct the posting of colors. Opening remarks are made by Mayor Joe Piccolo, along with Chairperson, Terry Willis, both will introduce and award this year’s Grand Marshall, Frank Peczuh, Citizen of the Year, Connie Hamilton and Junior Grand Marshall, Taylor Tryon and David Peczuh. Live entertainment for the evening will feature a concert by the rockin group, Paid In Full, followed by an amazing firework display off Wood Hill sponsored by AutoFarm and Price Auto Group.
The annual Kid’s Parade will kick off on Friday at 9:30 am with a new starting point for this year’s parade, as Willis explains, “Anybody that is going to be participating in that come to the school district maintenance building, which is right next to the Mont Harmon football field and there will be plenty of parking for parents and it’s within walking distance of the park, so it should make that a little bit smoother, to make it safer and a little more fun.” The new route will allow kids to ride their bikes or scooters, pull their wagons to the lawn in front of USU-Eastern’s CBB Building to enjoy fun activities and games, including the climbing wall all sponsored by Castleview Hospital from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
The numerous traditional happenings that visitors have come to know and love every year will be in the park. Willis added, “I think we have of 150 different vendors in the park this year, so the park will be packed. It’s going to be an exciting event again and I think we’ll do the city proud.” Vendors will offer items such as delicious food and desserts, retail items like clothing and sunglass, as well as homemade arts and crafts. Live entertainment from various individuals and groups will be on the main stage starting at noon on both days. The Plein Aire Artist, the carnival, Harley Davidson exhibit, new Auto, RV and ATV expo, rock crawlers and kids mobile derby will also be in full swing. The annual tire-frying Burnout Contest will begin at 7:00 pm on Main Street featuring cars, trucks both old and new.
Saturday will begin bright and early with the annual Lion’s Club Breakfast at 7:00 am, followed by the United Way’s 5K starting at 8:00 am. The annual golf tournament will be held at the Carbon Country Club with a shot gun start of 8:00 am. The parade will begin at 10:00 am at Main Street and 600 East down to 100 West. After the parade guests can head to Washington and Pioneer park to enjoy all the similar activities held on Friday, with the addition of Carbon Rec’s basketball and horseshoe tournament, along with the spectacular car show held at Pioneer Park and of course, different performers on the main stage.
