School is officially back in session in the Carbon School District which means the Nutrition Director, Patti Rigby along with her staff have been busy behind the scenes preparing breakfast and lunch menus for students this year.

There have been several additions to the free breakfast program this year. “Last year’s new breakfast entrée called Breakfast on a Stick, has been very popular. We recently added bacon as a breakfast side as well. Of course the sausage links continue to be a favorite. We recently had requests to bring back some prior menu items like the apple cinnamon texas toast and the cheesy scramble eggs,” stated Rigby.  Breakfast times vary between schools but will usually start 20 to 25 minutes before the first bell rings

Fresh fruits and vegetable program will now be offered at Wellington and Bruin Point Elementary. Students will be able to enjoy a cup of fresh fruit or veggies twice a week. It’s a separately funded program which differs from the USDA program.

Last year the district went paperless and filling the application for free/reduced lunch must re-apply each school year to receive them again. The payment system for lunch accounts is also available online by visiting the district web page at www.carbonschools.org. The district believes that this is a quick and convenient way for parents to make payments throughout the school year.
