The Castle Country Radio’s Annual Pie Auction in June was very profitable in generating to assist cancer patients in Carbon, Emery and Grand Counties.

A total of 60 pies were donated by local residents, business leaders and dignitaries. Those that did not donate a pie brought in items to be bundled with the delicious pies, such as gift cards to local businesses, gift baskets, certificates to the Clark Planetarium, concert tickets, passes to the Natural History Museum of Utah, Range Creek tour for two and home décor.

After eight hours of auctioning the total of pies sold added to $9,554.00, which averaged about $160.00 per pie, along with cash contributions of $2,750.00, bringing the grand total to $12,304.00. All funds raised from the pie auction are deposited and managed by Southeast Utah Community Development Corporation.

This year a portion of the proceeds were awarded to the Perkie Travel program. A check in the amount of $5,000.00 was presented by Station Manager, Paul Anderson, along with Office Manager, Ann Anderson and representatives from the station’s Sales Department. Perkie Travel is operated through Active Re-entry, which provides daily transportation for cancer patients from Carbon and Emery counties in need of radiation treatments at Utah Valley Medical Center in Provo.

The remaining funds stay local to assist residents in Carbon, Emery and Grand Counties who travel on their own to receive cancer treatments with $100.00 fuel cards, as well as, funding the Thomas B Anderson scholarship fund, which helps a student who has had or has cancer in either Carbon or Emery county to further their education.

Castle Country Radio Station appreciates everyone who donates to and buys from the annual Pie Auction each year, without participation the event would not be a huge, profitable event.
