The annual United Way of Eastern Utah’s Day of Caring will take place on Saturday, September 9 at 7:30 am. This is the seventh year that has proven to be the largest single day of volunteerism in Carbon County. Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of Lin’s Fresh Market for a free breakfast before heading out to the various jobs around town.
In order to carry-out completion of projects the organizers are currently seeking individual and/or group volunteers to donate their time. “Basically, we just go out and beautify our community, all of us working together,” said Executive Director, Cheryl Thayne. “The awesome thing about it is last year we had 804 people.” The goal this year is to beat last year’s total in volunteers. Remember, there is no age limit to participate, any individual or a group such as an entire family or employees from a business, members of a sports team or civic organization are welcomed to be a part of a phenomenal event.
Volunteers are asked to bring an enthusiastic attitude, ready to work hard. Organizers strongly encouraged participants to dress appropriately with clothes that can get dirty or painted on, wear comfortable close-toed shoes and work gloves. Helpers can bring their own shovels, rakes or tools they feel will be needed for the various jobs. There will be first-aid kits and bottles of water readily available throughout the event.
Following breakfast, volunteers will be assigned to a group, along with a group leader to complete set jobs for non-profit agencies and/or properties. Project applications are currently being accepted from now until Thursday, September 7. Examples of projects can range from interior/exterior painting, landscaping, winterization of homes and fencing. “We also clean up different areas in our community, Wood Hill gets a whole new make-over,” stated Thayne. United Way will provide the man power to complete said projects, but all items and/or supplies needed must be provided by the applicant in order to complete their desired project.
The day of volunteerism will closeout with a free BBQ luncheon sponsored by Helper Stake at 11:30 am at Price City’s Washington Park.
Individuals and/or groups that would like to submit a project application or volunteer may call United Way at 637-8911 or stop by their office located at 67 East Main Street in Price.
