The Carbon Dinos golf team extended their region lead by 18 strokes as they posted a season low score of 299 Thursday afternoon at the Carbon Country Club Golf Course.

“299 is a very good day for us and that has been our goal all year,” said head coach Tom King. “Being at the home course sure helps. The 299 could have been even better considering a few kids didn’t play to their standards.”

Senior Ryker Smith delivered a dominating performance to lead the Dinos with a score of 66. Brady Gagon worked as the perfect compliment with a 75. Ryan Gagon and Carson Martines finished out the team’s top four scores as each shot a 79.

Despite the dominance by Carbon, Providence Hall provided formidable competition with a final team score of 317. Union finished in third with a 339, followed by Delta’s 357, American Leadership’s 369 and Juab’s 374. Maeser Prep completed the field of seven with a final score of 448.

The win in Thursday’s home meet gives increases Carbon’s lead by nearly 130 strokes heading into the final two region tournaments of the year. Up next the Dinos will travel to Nephi to compete at Canyon Hills, the home course of the Juab Wasps.

“Next week is going to be a good gauge for us,” said King. “That will tell us where we are going to be going into state. After that we’ll go to Spanish Fork, which is not a very difficult course.”

Following the region finale the Dinos will play host to the Eastern Utah Cup on Sept. 28.
