The annual United Way of Eastern Utah’s Day of Caring will take place on Saturday, September 9 at 7:30 am. This is the seventh year that has proven to be one of the largest single day of volunteerism in Carbon County.
“You get breakfast at Lin’s, so show up at 7:15 am so you can get registered for a project. Sign-up for a project, have a donut, some juice or a hot beverage,” stated Executive Director, Cheryl Thayne. “If you have a certain skill set, if you’re a plumber or you like to painting and we have a project like that, then look through those ones that might fit your skill set and go out to your project with your project leader.” Participants will receive an event t-shirt and in return are asked to bring an enthusiastic, ready to work hard attitude.
The event last year brought in around 700 volunteers who assisted in accomplishing both small and large tasks within the community. The goal this year is to increase the number of volunteers to complete the 50 projects schedule this year. “So, Wood Hill is usually a big project, we are also doing the gun range, that’s another big project; the community garden is one that we could use a lot of hands to pull weeds and things like that and we’re also doing the Price City Walkway,” said Thayne. There is absolutely no age limit for individuals to participate, parents can use this time to show and teach their children how to take pride in their community. This is also a fantastic opportunity for team-building outside of the workplace for employees, members of a sports team or civic organizations.
It is strongly encouraged that participants dress appropriately with clothes that can get dirty or painted on, wear comfortable close-toed shoes and bring work gloves. Volunteers can bring their own shovels, rakes or other misc. tools that they feel will be needed to complete the various projects. There will be first-aid kits, sun screen and bottles of water readily available during the event.
United Way will provide a delicious free barbeque luncheon to all the hard-working volunteers at 11:30 am in Price City’s Washington Park where they unwind, relax and and socialize.
