The students, as well as the staff at Castle Heights Elementary are well into their third week of school and according to Principal, Chris Winfree, everyone has settled in quite nicely thus far.
The school went under some cosmetic changes during the summer, one of which is more parking availability. “We added 72 parking spots behind the school, which means it allows us to open up the front parking lot now for parent parking and drop off. Which is a really nice thing, it allows us to get the kids off the streets, drop them off in the parking lot where it’s a little bit safer,” stated Winfree. Before the new addition, there was only a total of 60 parking spots for the entire school, this did not even cover the staff when they were all there.
There was also an upgrade made over the summer to the school’s playground. “A full-size basketball court outside now, with adjustable hoops for the kids. So instead of the little hoops, we actually have a full-size court outside. We are adding some new things for the kids to do on the playgrounds, some new games besides four-square and hop scotch,” said Winfree. The new additions are sure to be enjoyed by current and future students.
A safety change has occurred inside the school as Winfree explains further, “When parents come to the school to filter everyone through the office, so that no one can get in a classroom without checking in first, it just keeps the kids safe. For the sake of our kindergarten, we’ve actually not had anything really, you can walk right into the lobby and go right into the kindergarten classrooms. So, we’ve also added some security doors for the kindergarten, so parents will find that a little bit different.” The school does not want to take any chances when it comes to the safety of the students, teachers and staff.
There are many activities that are scheduled this fall, PTA 5K fun run, anti-bullying and kindness assemblies, as well as the annual Halloween Carnival. To learn more about what is going on at the school visit their Facebook page.
