The Emery Lady Spartans completed the first round of Region 15 play with a comfortable 4-1 victory over the Richfield Wildcats Thursday afternoon on the road.

Wasting little time developing a hefty advantage, the Lady Spartans scored three goals in the opening half while shutting out the Wildcats. The second half was a formality as both teams found the back of the net once.

Alexis Winter scored two goals in Thursday’s victory, running her season total to 12. Chloe Sermon and Jocee Funk both added one as Emery moved to 4-1 in division action.

With only five games remaining in league play the Lady Spartans have built a two game cushion above Richfield and North Sanpete for second place in the six team division. Manti sits at the top of the standings, holding a one game advantage over Emery.

The Lady Spartans will return to the field on Tuesday as they travel to meet the North Sanpete Hawks for the second and final time this season. Emery won the first meeting at home 7-1 on August 29.
