The Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County would like to invite the community to their open house at their location of 30 East 200 South on Friday, September 29 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. The Carbon County Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:30 pm.
There are several clubs all over the nation and most are generally found in urban cities. The Boys & Girls Club of Carbon County was formed in August 2010 to fulfill a need for serving teens and young adults in the area with activities and programs geared toward their interests. It was not till just recently that the club opened its membership to elementary aged students.
The purpose behind the Boys and Girls Club is to not only provide a safe environment afterschool, but to prepare the young members to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible, successful citizens. Kids and teens who regularly attend the club do better than their peers socially and academically.
The local club offers a summer program, as well as an after-school program. There is absolutely no income requirement for students to participant in either program. The annual membership fee is very affordable for families at $20.00 per child, per school year, this also includes a healthy after-school snack.
Services offered in the after-school program can be tutoring, visual and performing arts, sports and fitness activities. In addition to these, for teens they get an opportunity to participate in life skills workshops like financial management, conflict resolution, cooking skills, alcohol/drug prevention, college preparation and employment needs.
Community members that attend the open house Friday, September 29 can enjoy light refreshments and get a chance to meet the students, staff members and receive a tour of the club facilities.
The Boys and Girls Club is always looking for volunteers and donations such as food items for snacks, art and school supplies or monetary donations. If you would like to know more about the Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County call 637-6066 or visit their Facebook page.
