The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is offering a free introduction Waterfowl Hunting clinic that will take place at Desert Lake WMA, east of Elmo, Utah on Saturday, September 23 from 8:00 am till 12:00 pm.

“It’s one of our bigger clinics that we have every year. This is a clinic where people can come and learn how to hunt waterfowl,” stated Conservation Outreach Manger, Morgan Jacobsen. “It’s not very complicated, it’s not hard but it is a little bit different than upland game hunting or big game hunting.” The clinic is open to youth and adults both first time hunters to the experienced.

Participants can plan on learning at several stations that will be set up to learn the basics. “We’ll have a duck calling contest and we’ll have some prizes that we are going to give away at the end of the day. You know a lot of different other aspects like how to arrange your decoys when you are out in the field or how to train your dogs so that they are good at interacting with waterfowl and making your hunt more enjoyable and successful,” said Jacobsen. Other station activities will be show hunters how to identify the various species of ducks, as well as geese, plus offer a chance for a hands-on experience shooting clay pigeons from a blind.
