The Carbon Dinos and Emery Spartans will be well represented at the 3A State Girl’s Tennis Championship Tournament Thursday at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.
Senior Amanda Johansen will enter the state tournament as Emery’s lone singles player. Entering the tournament as the No. 4 seed from Region 15, Johansen will meet Delta senior Kimberly Lebaron in the first round.
Senior Kianna Pittman and junior Regan Sitterud will team up in the first doubles bracket against Judge Memorial’s Anna Drossos and Olivia Anderson. Freshman Macie Nelson and sophomore Jordynn Wolford will face Juab’s Jessica Willmore and Keana Williams.
Carbon junior Jewelianna Nielsen will enter the state tournament as the school’s lone representative. Logging the No. 5 seed from Region 14, Nielsen will meet North Sanpete’s Hannah Ostraff in the opening round.
The state tournament will run in the form of single elimination. All matches will be two-out-of-three sets with regular scoring. A seven-point tiebreak game will be played for all sets tied at 6-6 (first player/team to score 7 points with a 2 point margin wins the game and set).
Team scoring for the 3A State Tennis Tournaments will be 1-1-2-2. One point for a win in the first round and quarter-finals, and two points for a win in the semi-finals and finals. A player who draws a bye the first round must win the next match in order to receive the point for the bye. In the case of a forfeit, the team points shall still be awarded to the match winner
