As just a friendly reminder, Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood focused on sharing hunting safety tips and winterization of vehicles during his weekly update.

“I want everyone to be sure to be safe while you are out there, especially now that we are going into the gun seasons. Make sure you know your target and what’s beyond it and sure of what we are shooting; make sure that your guns are not loaded while they are in the vehicle, treat them as if they are loaded all the time,” said Wood. Parents need to be sure to always practice and teach the importance of gun safety to the younger hunters because they tend to learn by example.

This is the time of year that the weather changes to cooler temps in the morning and evenings. Drivers should start to winterize their vehicle before the harsh winter months approach. “Things I like to look at are make sure my windshield wipers are good because you know when the snow gets on the ground, the salt gets on the road and you have that on your windshield, you need to make sure that you can see where you are going,” stated Wood. Other features to look at is snow tires, check the battery, along with the fluids, especially the anti-freeze mixture. Drivers should also stock their car with emergency supplies, because it’s better to be safe, then sorry.
