The Emery Lady Spartans competed the home portion of the regular season slate with a 5-0 victory over the Richfield Wildcats in a Region 15 tilt Tuesday afternoon.

Putting an exclamation point on the region slate, Emery exploded out of the gate by scoring three goals in the first half. The domination continued throughout the second and final half as the Lady Spartans added two more to close out the contest.

Alexis Winter recorded another hat trick, running her season goals scored total to 20. Addy Healy and Morgan Hurdsman also found the back of the net in the win. Mileena McElvaney notched the shutout at goalkeeper for the third time this season.

Tuesday’s win marks the eighth in ten region tries, solidifying second place. The two losses came at the hands of Manti, who finished unbeaten as division champions. The loss sends Richfield to an ending record of 4-6, good enough for fourth place.

While the region season is now complete the Lady Spartans will have one more tune up before tune up before it begins next week. Friday the team will meet the 4A Payson Lions on the road. The Lions have struggled throughout the season, recording just two wins.

The second place finish in Region 15 means Emery will play host to the Carbon Dinos, the sixth place team from 14, in the opening round of the state tournament. The two teams will go toe-to-toe on Oct. 11 in Castle Dale at 4:00 p.m..
