Eight Carbon High School student-athletes have been recognized for their excellence in the classroom during the 2017 fall season with a selection to the Academic All-State team in their respective sport by the Utah High School Activities Association and the Deseret News.

Zade Carrillo, Ryan Gagon and Ryker Smith are three of ten golfers in the 3A classification to earn the Academic Honor. The group combined of Academic All-State recipients combined for a 3.970 GPA. Smith and Gagon helped lead the Dinos to a second straight region championship, while Carrillo has been a steady contributor to the varsity team.

Shannon Baker, Makara Morgan and Adriana Taylor were three of ten individuals named to the cross country academic squad. The group combined for a 3.999 GPA. The cross country team is currently preparing for the regional meet, which will lead to the state competition on Oct. 18.

Morgan’s academic accomplishments also include an Academic All-State nod for soccer. Morgan, along with Rachel Walton, were two of 12 members that accumulated a perfect 4.000 GPA. The Soccer team has already clinched a spot in next week’s state championship tournament.

Also earning the honor is tennis player Mersedez Clifford, who joins nine others with a 3.996 GPA. Clifford and the Lady Dinos recently wrapped up the tennis season after participating in the region finale in September.
