Early success did not translate through all four quarters as the Carbon Dinos suffered a 39-7 setback to the Morgan Trojans Friday night on the road in a 3A North region contest.
Trailing 19-7 at the end of the first quarter, the Dinos failed to keep pace with the only unbeaten team remaining in the division. Friday’s loss dips Carbon to 0-4 in region play, while Morgan inches one step closer to clinching the division crown.
Quarterback Noah Jones completed 10 of 23 passes to lead the Dinos offensively with 109 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Chance Lecheminant hauled in two passes for 67 yards and touchdown, while Collin Lewis caught three balls for 31 yards.
Morgan delivered a balanced attack on the ground and through the air, scoring six touchdowns throughout the game. Quarterback Jacob Stephens threw for two touchdowns, while Porter Giles ran for two. Bridger Miller and Chase Trussell also found the endzone on the ground.
Carbon will enter the regular season finale against Judge Memorial as the only team in the 3A North without a win. Despite the struggles, a win for Carbon coupled with an Emery loss would force a three-way tie for fourth place in the division. The winner of the tie-breaker would play host to the first round of the state championship tournament.
