Residents near the Golf Course may have heard a loud BOOM on Thursday, October 5 between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. The Utah Bomb Squad is helping Carbon County eliminate a portion of a cliff that has experienced severe undercutting leaving it vulnerable to collapse. Due to possible debris on Highway 6, traffic will be stopped at the Consumers Exit, Price River bridge on ramp, Carbonville on Ramp and Spring Glenn exit for approximately 5-10 minutes during the blast.
Left unmitigated there is significant potential of the cliff falling on its own, leaving havoc in its wake. This mass has extreme potential of damaging critical infrastructure in our county including canals and watersheds. As part of the Federal Grant Funding received from the National Recourse Conservation Service (NRCS) Carbon County has been working diligently to improve flood control, by restoring capacity to the Price River and repairing output controls. This project that the Utah Bomb Squad is helping with is funded by this grant.
Thank you to the public for their cooperation, in an effort to ensure the safety of the crew. The Sheriff’s Office will be posting drone footage of the blast on their Facebook page.
