The Carbon Dinos completed the regular season with a 21-18 loss to the Judge Memorial Bulldogs on the road Friday evening in Salt Lake City.
Entering the finale with a chance to force a three-way-tie for a home playoff game, the Dinos held multiple leads throughout the contest. Three touchdowns without converting a point-after proved to be the difference as the team slipped to 0-9 on the season.
Senior Nate Olson led the way on offense with 170 yards and one touchdown off of 27 carries. Collin Lewis also reached the endzone on an efficient night, finishing with 54 yards on 12 attempts. Quarterback Noah Jones completed five of 18 passes for 40 yards.
Carbon scored the first touchdown of the game as sophomore Jaylon Dennis picked off Judge Memorial quarterback Parker Edgington and returned it 21 yards for a touchdown. Dennis recorded four more tackles in the contest to help a strong defensive showing.
While Judge Memorial struggled to find consistency through the air offensively, the team did combine for 205 yards on the ground. Senior Kayden Milburn rushed for 91 yards on 12 carries, while Edgington proved his worth as a duel threat quarterback with an additional 42 yards.
The win for Judge Memorial solidified the No. 4 seed and home field advantage in the opening round of the state tournament on Thursday against Manti. The Carbon loss means the team finishes as the No. 6 seed in the division, setting up a date with Juan Diego in the first round on Wednesday.
The 3A playoffs will officially get underway on Wednesday as the No. 1 and 2 seeds have earned byes into the second round. The higher seeds will play host to the lower seeds, and the winners will advance to the quarterfinals next week.
