The Castle Valley Center is an exception school within the Carbon School District, they pride themselves in accommodating the needs of students who have disabilities beginning at a young age to transitioning into the adult program.

“I think many people in the community realize that we work with young children, three and four years old in a preschool setting,” said Principal Michael Keller. “We also work with kids who are school age, well in kindergarten starting at age five through age 22, which you are entitle to school services when you have a disability. Then at age 22 we also work with adults in the community.” The school wants nothing more than for students young and old to become successful in all aspect of their lives.

The school offers some very valuable services in a nurturing learning environment. “Once a student is qualified and does have a disability, it could be a speech and language delay. We have Speech and Language Pathologists that work with that young student and helps them to overcome the delay,” stated Keller. In certain situations, this type of service can allow students the opportunity to attend a school near their home. Other types of services offered is physical therapy and occupational therapy.

Community members play a huge part in the success of the students at Castle Valley Center. “Almost every week I have someone come and want to volunteer. Well we have many high school students that come, as part of their learning experience in a career education class. We have our nursing class at CEU, as they learn about caring for others, they spend a half-day at the Castle Valley Center,” said Keller. The school is extraordinary due to the faculty, staff and talented students.

The school has an open-door policy to visitors, whether it’s just a visit and/or tour of the school or attending one of their many events such as the Halloween Carnival, Christmas Program and Prom. The school is located at 755 North Cedar Hills Drive or call the school at 637-9150 to make an appointment.
