The Carbon Dinos continued the swim season by competing against two other schools Thursday afternoon on the road in Richfield.
The Lady Dinos earned first place as the team used seven top finishes to help accumulate 138 points. Richfield ended second with 133 points, followed by South Sevier with six to round out the field of three.
Carbon’s boys team gathered eight first place finishes, leading to a second place performance with 109 points. Richfield took home the overall win with 126 points, while South Sevier ended third with 33.
The Lady Dinos started the meet with a bang as the 200 yard relay team consisting of Megan Swasey, Nicole Swasey, Sofia Crompton and Shannon Baker earned first place with a time of 2:04.36. The group defeated second place Richfield by over four-seconds, as the unit finished in 2:08.28.
Baker, Megan Swasey, Kacee Barrett and Emily Jespersen gave the Lady Dinos another first place relay finish in the 200 yard freestyle. Jespersen, Crompton, Barrett and Jacee Richards also closed out the meet with a first place performance in the 400 yard freestyle.
Individually the Lady Dinos continued to excel as Barrett notched the top time in the 100 yard butterfly at 1:16.46. Four events later Jespersen won the 500 yard free by finishing in 6:50.10.
Baker added an individual first place nod in the 100 yard backstroke later in the day with a finishing time of 1:18.55. Megan Swasey recorded the final individual win, topping the competition in the 100 yard breaststroke.
On the boy’s side of the pool the Dinos earned the top finish in the 200 yard relay as Tyson Swasey, Kinnon Lyman, Rylan Chamberlain and Mathew Torres finished in 2:02.97. The 200 yard relay team consisting of Swasey, Lyman, Chamberlain and Jerron Stead also topped the field with a time of 1:44.97.
Swasey continued to add first place finishes by easily defeating the field in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:28.42, 13-seconds better than second place. His second individual victory came later on in the 100 yard breaststroke.
Lyman also delivered two first place scores, winning the 50 yard free with a time of 26.43. Just a few events later he also won the 100 yard free, finishing in 1:00.66.
The final individual win for Carbon went to Chamberlain in the 100 yard butterfly. The time of 1:03.80 was close to 18-seconds better than Richfield’s Mac Ogden, who ended in second.
Carbon will now turn its attention to the Tuesday’s meet against the Grand Red Devils in Moab. Tuesday’s competition will be the last before a lengthy Thanksgiving break, allowing the team to take nine days off before the next meet on Nov. 30.
