The Southeast Health Department, along with the HOPE Squad, would like to invite the public to attend a free QPR Training on Wednesday, November 29 at 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Notre Dame Hope Center located at 185 North Carbon Avenue.
“It’s called, well QPR stands for Questions, Persuade and Refer. We teach it, it’s a PowerPoint presentation that we do because we have way too many suicides in this community,” said Community Health Educator, Shelli Jo Ness. “It is a free training, it’s for the community and lunch will be served. If you can just save one life or to give that person a little bit of glimmer of hope, it will make your day.” The 60-minute training has three simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. The course will help you to question a person about suicide, persuade the individual in crisis to get help and refer the person to the appropriate resource for help.
Guests will be able to enjoy a free lunch prepared and served by Father Rafael A Murillo Ventura. Event Coordinators would like to get an estimated number of people so that there will be enough food prepared. To RSVP please call the Southeast Health Department at 637-3671. If this type of training is of interest for your family, church group, business or civic group, contact the health department to schedule a free training session.
