The Carbon Dinos opened the brand new wrestling season with a road dual against the Duchesne Eagles Tuesday evening on the road.

Competing for the first time since the blue and white contest, the Dinos battled tough, but ultimately fell short in the team score 45-29. The loss comes despite eight individual wins throughout the evening on both the varsity and junior varsity side of the mat.

“We knew ever since we scheduled them that we would start the season out tough,” said head coach Brock Fausett. “We matched up well with our middleweights, which is where we scored most of our points. We came away with a good learning experience, knowing what we need to work on moving forward.”

This year’s team features five seniors, including four returners from last year’s squad. Out of those four returning seniors Casey Shiner was the only one to record a win in the season opener. Shiner is expected to be the team’s top 140-pound wrestler throughout the season.

Other wins came from Nick Cowley, Chris Grant, P.J. Howa, Keytyn Hunt, Ryan Madrigal, Jo Martinez and Granger West.

Carbon will continue the season Friday and Saturday with a trip to the Moab Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The next home meet will take place Tuesday, Dec. 5 against the Manti Templars.
