The Carbon Dinos finished 1-2 on a weekend three-game road trip against out of state competition in Grand Junction, Colo.

Entering the weekend 0-1 on the season, Carbon wasted little time recording their first victory of the season in 55-26 blowout win over Palisade, Colo.

Jumping out to an early 18-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, Carbon controlled the majority of the game. The Dinos put the contest out of reach by outscoring Palisade 20-2 in the final eight minutes.

Collin Lewis led a balanced Dinos attack with 12 points, while Ryan Gagon chipped in with 11. Jordan Vasquez finished with eight points, six of which came from deep. Kaleb Nelson contributed six, and both Derek Hillam and Ryker Smith scored five.

Carbon returned to the court on Friday as a slow start plagued the team in the 58-47 to Cortez, Colo. Trailing 26-12 at the end of the first half, the Dinos scored 35 points over the final two quarters battle evenly with Cortez.

Hillam posted his best statistical contest of the young season by scoring 20 points to go along with 13 rebounds and three steals. Gagon also recorded a double-double with 13 points, and 14 rebounds. Vasquez also recorded double-figures with 12 points.

The weekend came to an end with another setback, this time in a 52-50 thriller that involved several runs from both teams.

Hillam and Gagon once again led the team in scoring as both contributed 13 a piece. Lewis connected on three makes from deep to finish with nine points.

Now 1-3 on the season, the Dinos will prepare for a busy week that begins on Tuesday with a home contest against the Richfield Wildcats. Wednesday Carbon will travel to Castle Dale to meet the Emery Spartans.
